 BABY

This sweet little mini was only a year old when he passed away.  He was rescued from a very selfish and irresponsible man who had WAY too many animals.  Baby was the smallest horse in the dirt lot.  Whenever the man decided to feed the horses poor little baby was at the bottom of the pecking order and hardly ever got to eat anything.  The larger horses would beat him to the food and eat it all before he could even get a little nibble.  Besides being neglected with food and water, he was also neglected simple hygeine care.  He was eaten up with mites, and had foundered so bad from lack of nutrients that he could barely walk.  When one of our rescue members went out to see the horses, the man threw some food out so that they would come up close to the fence so we could see them.  Poor little baby was hiding behind a wheel barrow that was in the lot and even though he could barely walk, and knew that he couldn't make it to the food, he was so hungry and desperate that he tried anyway and fell down.  He didn't even try to get up, he just layed there.

This man was wanting to SELL all of his animals.  He wouldn't have even talked to us if we told him that we were an animal rescue so we had to buy poor little baby along with several others just to get them out of the horrible nightmare that they were living in everyday! Before we stepped in to "buy" these horses from this man, we did contact animal control with no avail... All they did was give him THREE warnings, and didn't even fine him!  Just told him to get rid of the horses, and told us that there was nothing that he (the animal control officer) could do about it! The other horses received vet care, and made it into loving homes through our rescue.

Baby was adopted by his foster.  She, her husband, and her three kids had fallen in love with Baby and him with them.  Baby got to live 1 week out of his one year of life knowing what it felt like to be loved, and knowing that he would never have to go to bed hungry again.  Baby received a LOT of vet care since he was so badly neglected.  The vet actually thought that he might be able to pull out of this slump that he was in and get to be a healthy horse.  However, as bad as he looked from the outside, he was actually even worse on the inside.  His life ended only after getting to know his loving family one week after he had met them.  His little body had just been abused and neglected too much to be able to recover from such a harsh living enviroment.  His organs had gotten so used to operating with little to nothing, that his liver had started to digest any fat left in his body for energy.  His body was slowly posioning itself and his organs started to slowly shut down.  His foster family called their vet out that sad night when he started showing signs of respitory failure.  He was euthanized in June of 2005.  Baby was only a year old!

No animal should every have to go through something like this, but the sad truth is that more animals go through this everyday than those who don't!  At least Baby was able to have a sense of belonging and love.  He was able to pass away  in comfort, surrounded  and held by his family who loved him.  I wish he could have lived his whole life out with them and gotten to experience more than just that one week of pure heaven, but now he will have an eternity of that.  I only hope that the others like him, would get the chance to experience love like that before they leave this world only knowing pain.  Thank you to the Craft family for taking Baby into your home and your hearts forever! He will be greatly missed!

  Bonnie

Bonnie was such a loving puppy!  She was only 2 months old when she died.  She was a parvo puppy.  When we rescued her from the shelter, she already had the disease, but it didn't show up until after a few days that we had her.  She had been to our vet, had a clean bill of health and was given her first puppy shots, and wormed.  Not even two days after that is when the Parvo started to show up.  The vet said that there was nothing that we could have done to prevent it.  We did everything that we could for this sweet little girl.  She was in the hospital on fluids and medication, but the parvo was just too much for her young little body.

Bonnie passed away only 2 days after being hospitalized.  She was such a sweet puppy and had so much love to offer.  She is now in a better place, and free of pain.  She will be deeply missed and always remembered!  Specail thanks to Chris who cared for  Bonnie and showed her the love and assurance that she needed in this tough time in her life!  The whole time she was in the hospital Chris was there rubbing her belly, and getting her warm towels to cover up with.  She was Bonnie's Angel through the whole process and I know that this had to put Bonnie at ease with everything else that was going on around her.  Thank you so much Chris for being there for her!

I REMEMBER
(In memory of beloved pets who are gone, but not forgotten.)

I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying. You found it hard to sleep.

I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear,
"It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."

I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea,
You were thinking of the many times your hands reached down to me.

I was with you at the shops today. Your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today, You tend it with such care.
I want to re-assure you, that I'm not lying there.

I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said "It's me."

You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there.

It's possible for me to be so near you everyday.
To say to you with certainty, "I never went away."

You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew...
in the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.

The day is over... I smile and watch you yawning
and say "Good-night, God bless, I'll see you in the morning."

And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,
I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand, side by side.

I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out... then come home to be with me.
